SRC series - The Elk leg caddis

Hook: TMC 100 size10-14
Thread: Uni 12/0
Abdomen: 1 mm Foam
Legs: Elk hair
Wings: Tyvek paper or 0.5 mm foam

At the start of 2006 I got a order from a friend to do a "realistic Europea no12" for him. After exprimenting with it for a few days the first version of this pattern saw the light of the day or the first time!

With the small amount of elk hair used they are not meant to aid in floatation at all instead just to mimic the movement in the legs as the caddis swims on the surface, but it will also serve a great purpose as a  perfect silhouette of a caddis when free drifting.

It will sit deep in the surface with the legs both on and under the water. For the really fast flowing waters I will switch the Tyvek wing for a wing from 0.5 mm thick foam instead.
