About Elmer

Elmer was founded in the autumn / winter 1999 by a couple of then collegues from Örebro and Stockholm. Roger, Björn, Anders and Ronny where in Örebro when Roger, most for the fun of it, made a webpage for the Elmer fishing club. His collegue, in Stockholm, Ulf made a logo for the club and by doing this made the Elmer fishing club official.
The name Elmer comes from an episode of the American western tv-show "Macahans" where Luke Macahan meets a sheriff who is flyfishing a river in an effort to catch his "Elmer", his dream trout. When he finnaly catches "him" he just gives the fish a kiss and releases it again, just to start fishing for "him" again.

Even though the club from the beginning had a more general fishing focus, it has developed into a more and more flyfishing specific club.
During the years that have passed since the foundation the members have spread throughout Sweden and can be found in Stockholm, Göteborg and Örebro.

It was first in 2001 that everything really started rolling, we then did our first collective flyfishing trip to Sysslebäck in Klarälven. Since then we have done many Elmer-trips and a couple of day-trips togheter. During these trips we have also developed our flyfishing in different direction which is the strength in Elmer. We are all experts in different areas and combined have great knowledge in everything from casting, outdoor life, flytying, photography and nature science.

In 2003 we included our first new member since the start of the Elmer fishing club, Magnus Mattisson, and in the summer of 2004 it was time for Rikard Dahl to join. Some Elmer-trips later, Anders Löfgren also joined in with us.

From the very start we have all agreed to being very careful when choosing new members. We are from the beginning just a bunch of friends who likes to fish together, and we want to keep it that way. Therefore it is very important that we all share the same view of life, mentality and humour.
We have set up a couple of simple rules regarding adding new members to Elmer:
- The prospect must be recommended by one of the founders.
- Must particapate on an Elmer trip on a trial basis, so that we all can get to know him for a couple of days
- Must have flyfishing as his main fishing interest
- Must be active in mail-conversations that we have between meets
- Must be able to participate on atleast one Elmer trip each year
- And last but not least must have the true Elmer spirit

The five founders must always agree about including new members. The founders can exclude a member if they do not fulfill the above demands. This may seem harsh but we would very much like to maintain the friendship that we have built the club around.

Today we really dont know how the club will evolve in the future, but one of the core ideas is to share our burning interest for flyfishing amongst our selves, and now to with this webpage,  with the rest of the world.
