Flytying

Super realistic display flies tied  by Ulf Hagström.

In may2005 my view on flytying changed dramaticly. I had then on different american flytyign forums during a few weeks seen flies I never thought possible to tie for hands. So called "display flies" was shown that so closely resembled the real insect. My initial thought was that this was something that I never would be able to do myself  but the more I saw the more intersted I got in trying it myself. Eventually i sat down one evening and when morning arrived I had produced my first realistic fly.

Since then I have used a big part of my spare time in developing patterns and experimenting with material and tying techniques. The hight of it all was when I got invited to tie at the Swedish Flyfishgin fair in april 2006.

Below you will find some of my super realistic display flies. These flies are not tied to fish with but are instead small work of art to be displayed in a frame or glass dome. All the flies are TIED on to the hook, no glue are used to attach anything to the hook!

The flies below takes between 4 and 20 hours to tie and if you are interested in purchasing any of them contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Swedish mayfly collection

Ever since I started tying realistic I have been focusing at doing realistic mayfly nymfs. For this collection I chosed six common swedish mayflies and during severals weeks produced this colection.
